TECHNICS DJ EQUIPMENT
“BECOME WHO YOU WERE BORN TO BE – FULFILL THAT DREAM OF YOURS NOW”
FROM SL1200mk2 to DZ1200s
There is hardly any other legend in DJ equipment than Technics. What did the DJs use before the emergence of the legend amongst legends – sl1200? That is not an easy question to answer.
The heavy duty, vibration-resistant, and very precise sl1200 DJ deck featured direct drive motor, the famous adjustable arm weights, pop-up target light, the slider pitch control, and a quartz crystal for accuracy. It was the next generation of DJ decks.
Technics DJ equipment has dominated the DJ industry for over thirty years! The sl1200 DJ turntable continued on to become sl1200mk2 – the one and only for many DJs – then later it would evolve further with the M3D series, followed by MK5 in 2003. The 1200s are commonly considered the industry standard turntable equipment in the DJ industry. Its supreme torque and robust build made it a primary choice for clubs as standard, eliminating the need for DJs to transport own equipment.
But the evolution is a merciless beast. There is no stopping and the digital age knows no slow speeds. With the appearance and rapid growth of digital media the analogue turntables are gradually being replaced by the digital turntables. The ease of carrying endless amount of records in one’s pocket simply appeals to too many. And despite the nostalgic feelings and the sheer beauty of the old 1200s, the new 1200s – DZ1200s are taking the legend’s place.
However, the DZ1200 is a beast in itself and might as well become the legend of the digital age. The sl-dz1200 is the world’s first direct-drive digital turntable. The 10’’ platter lets the DJ spin, scratch and break the track in several formats – including MP3, CD, AAC. It has a realistic vinyl feel. And, instead of carrying your records around, all you need is a removable SD card that fits into your pocket.
Indeed, a modern DJ will carry his laptop, not the records. And despite the decreased audio quality through compression, it seems like the good old analogue 1200s will fade out – perhaps to gain even more legendary status in the hands of collectors of Technics DJ equipment.
